Review: Sunwarrior Illumin-8

July 13, 2016

I use Sunwarrior products daily, sometimes twice a day, so you can say I am a huge fan. Recently they sent me some samples to try and a container of their newest product: Illumin-8. I am always happy to try their latest products because everything they make is so good and great quality. Illumin-8 isn't like their other protein products. This is more of a meal replacement type.  I do use it in the same way I use their protein powder but I don't add in my normal superfoods because they are already built in. More on that later..

Even though this isn't a protein powder, it still has a ton of protein (19 grams)! The protein comes from yellow peas, brown rice, chia, quinoa, flax, and sprout. Everyone knows that the most annoying question to get asked as a vegan is, "Where do you get your protein?" My answer is simple "plants have protein", but there are so many more vegan foods that contain protein. So why do I use protein/meal powder? Basically because I like the taste and with a powder like this the sources the protein comes from have other benefits. Plus, it's a quick and easy way to get calories and nutrients in a one stop shop. Many vegans strive to get all their nutrients from food but I am always looking for a little extra insurance. I like knowing that even if I am busy, and not able to sit down to a meal, I can make a smoothie and add Sunwarrior and I know I'll be satisfied and I'll be getting what I need. As you all know, my levels are perfect and even though I have a healthy diet, I feel like taking supplements and drinking Sunwarrior has contributed to that.  I have always been a fan of taking supplements, even before I became vegan and I have Little A taking probiotics, a vegan omega-3, B12 and a multi almost daily. She tends to be very active and is a grazer so again, I want that little extra insurance for her. She also enjoys half a scoop of Sunwarrior in her smoothies a few times a week.

Illumin-8 contains vitamin A, C, D, K, E, b6, b12, calcium, thiamin, niacin, folate, biotin, iodine, selenium, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, zinc and chromium with probiotics, sprout powder and enzymes! Talk about a power punch! The vitamins in it come exclusively from organic herbs, essential oils, and superfoods, nothing synthetic!

As I mentioned earlier, the superfoods are already built in to this meal powder. So instead of buying loads of powders to add to your shakes, you only need one scoop of Illumin-8. This will definitely save you money, especially if you love your superfoods like I do! The superfoods found in Illumin-8 are baobab, chia, flax, whole grain brown rice, kelp, holy basil, guava, and coconut.

The flavor reminds me of a Snickerdoodle cookie because of the cinnamon taste and the texture is smooth and not chalky. I like it especially mixed with frozen cherries (I buy a huge bag of organic ones at Costco) and bananas. T and Little A also really liked it and we went through the bottle rather fast because we all used it daily. Did I mention it's vegan, gluten free, soy free, dairy free, non gmo and organic?

*Sunwarrior sent me a tub of Illumin-8 to review but all opinions are my own.
