Hi! As you already know, Little A is on Summer Break. I didn't want her to fall into the Summer slump so this year I got organized and made a plan! Today, I thought I’d share some of the things we are doing academic wise. I’ve got my own little school going, and we are on a roll!
First, we have cut out the iPad mostly. Mostly meaning, I deleted YouTube kids, and they are only using ABC Mouse and other learning games and even that is very limited. This has made a huge difference (more on that soon).
Here is our daily plan (Mon-Fri before we do anything else).
Little A is allowed to watch a TV show in the morning (before camp, an outing or the pool), only if she has done the following:
Made Her Bed
During the day at any time, she must complete 30 minutes of reading out loud, a math facts printed sheet, writing from a prompt I give her that morning, and a few pages in her 2nd grade activity book.
Here are some of the reading prompts we have used so far:
If you won a million dollars, what would you do with it?
What pet would you love to have?
What would you do if you had a dragon stuck under your bed?
Think of a trick you could play on Mommy and write down what it is.
There are so many more, I found a great list here.
Before bed at night, I read her a chapter or so of the Junie B. Jones series.
For Little S:
Little S will be starting her first year of pre-k in the Fall. Here is what we are doing to prepare her:
We all read her lots of books all day long.
She uses a pre-k activity book daily.
We use Melissa and Doug puzzles daily (shapes, colors, numbers, and letters).
We sing the alphabet song and count our steps and objects all day.
She does some sort of art daily.
Plays outside, goes for walks, and bike rides (get that energy out).
Let me know if you are interested in what books we have been reading (Summer themed).
So far, so good! I’ll update at the end of Summer to let you know how the School of Lauren went. ;)
